Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute
Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute (www.pelagosinstitute.gr) participates in the “Thalassa” project as a main subcontractor. Pelagos Institute is a scientific not for profit organisation whose goal is the study and conservation of cetaceans.

The main objectives of Pelagos Institute are:

  • to conduct scientific research on cetaceans and their natural environment in Greece and the Mediterranean Sea as a whole

  • to spread information and knowledge towards every direction

  • to promote public awareness

  • to achieve the conservation of cetaceans and their natural environment.

Tethys Research Institute
Tethys Research Institute (www.tethys.org) participates in the “Thalassa” project as a main subcontractor. Tethys Research Institute, founded in 1986 in Milano, Italy is a private not for profit organisation specialising in cetacean research. Tethys has recorded one of the largest datasets on Mediterranean cetaceans. The work carried out by Tethys strives to prevent the decline of marine species and to encourage sustainable use of the marine environment.

ABOUT US

The Thalassapedia site was designed by the environmental organizations, MOm/Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal and WWF Greece, in cooperation with the cetacean research institutes, Pelagos and Tethys.
