MOm / The Hellenic Society for the Study and the Protection of the Mediterranean Monk Seal
MOm (www.mom.gr), the coordinating beneficiary of the “Thalassa” project, is a Greek, not for profit, non-governmental environmental organization, member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). MOm was established in 1988 and is dedicated to the protection of the marine and coastal environment through the study and protection of the Mediterranean monk seal. To achieve its mission MOm carries out actions in the following fields:

  • Field research

  • Establishment and Management of Marine Protected Areas

  • Operation of a Rescue and Information Network

  • Operation of the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for monk seal

  • Public Information and Awareness

  • Environmental Education

  • Scientific research and publications

World Wide Fund for Nature – WWF Greece

The non-governmental environmental organization WWF Greece (www.wwf.gr) is the associate beneficiary of the “Thalassa” project. WWF Greece was founded in 1990. The mission of WWF Greece is to preserve the rich biodiversity of Greece as an integral part of the Mediterranean, as well as to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. Since its establishment, WWF Greece has implemented more than 300 conservation projects in Greece, environmental policy interventions, public information and awareness campaigns, as well as environmental education and training programmes.

ABOUT US

The Thalassapedia site was designed by the environmental organizations, MOm/Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal and WWF Greece, in cooperation with the cetacean research institutes, Pelagos and Tethys.
